For a minute there I thought you meant Linked in was incorrectly spelt in the document!

Thank you for sharing the e-commerce article, it could probably do with being updated now but glad you found it useful. Will check out your Linkedin group.

Re: Social Media Guide – Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin

Hi Lynne, spelling mistake for LinkedIn does not help - you've spelt it Linkin. Also curious to know whether you are a freelancer or not.
In any case, I have a group on called ECOM on LinkedIn which I have submitted your "Which payment gateway should I use?" blog post to - as I found that very helpful and thought the little community of website designers, content managers and others interested in e-commerce in that group would appreciate it. It would be great if you were able to join that group, as I am sure they would enjoy engaging direct with you to discuss this pack and other things you do and blog about.
All the Best, Matt Miller

Re: What’s Changed? I heard on the radio yesterday that it's causing even more issues for kinds (and I suppose not just kids) trying to get work because their entire FB history is now one easy scroll away.

Think I really don't like about it is the ticker. I hate that comments you make to a friend can be visible depending on their security settings not your own settings.

Re: Which payment gateway should I use? Personally I like the ease of paying with Paypal and they have quickly settled a dispute in the past which impressed me. Ideally I like to see an option, when I have money in my Paypal account I'd rather find an online shop I can spend it in than wait for it to transfer to my bank account but if I don't have money in my Paypal then I'd prefer Wordlpay, Sagepay etc

Re: Which payment gateway should I use? We use Worldpay and haven't found any real problems. We agree that it comes across as being more professional than Paypal. Done well it can be fantastic, done badly it can be appalling.

Social media has opened up the ability to communicate widely and easily however this has lead to a major proportion thinking they also have the skills to match the opportunity. Not a problem when we are discussing with your friends but a real challenge when you are selling your services or products.

So I think many people need to accept when they have reached their natural level of ability and bring the experts in.

Re: Digital 2011 Conference in Glasgow’s SECC

I enjoyed the event, the crowd were really enthusiastic and showed a real desire to engage and learn. Hopefully everyone got something out of it and can prepare for the year ahead. Allowing for the fact that Goolge's Farmer update is just about to hit the results pages in the UK and the Search Alliance and Facebook seem to be up for the challenge of taking market share away from Google, 2011 isn't going to be a quiet year for any online business.

Grant Whiteside
www.ambergreen.co.uk
gwhiteside@ambergreen.co.uk

Re: Digital 2011 Conference in Glasgow’s SECC

Looks like it was an interesting day. I think it's a hugely positive step that companies advertising falsely online will now have someone to answer to.

Lynne

Re: Advertising on the Net – The ASA’s New Powers & SEO

Thanks for this Lynne. Good article.

Regarding Advertising: perhaps not so much socially, but defiantly more institutionally - I’d say that this is a giant leap for recognition of digital marketing / advertising credibility in general. So with that recognition, and vehicle for complaint, you would expect it to manifest itself by more ethical and responsible digital promotion?

Regarding SEO: these claims to be number one in Google etc – I’ve been thinking about this myself a lot recently. I’ve been studying some common ‘Black Hat SEO techniques’ over the weekend (as research you understand) and was quite surprised at some of the techniques being employed, especially with ‘Negative SEO.’

Good to see the likes of Google & Yahoo becoming more and more intelligent though, in the combat of the Black Hat brigade as everything continues to evolve at a breathtaking pace. Meaning companies employing honesty, integrity and genuinely wanting to have a positive impact on an organisations online presence (companies like POLR) are able to do so more fairly.

Stuart

Re: Anatomy of a Google search result

Anatomy of google search - good, clear and simple article.

Re: E-commerce It’s Written In The Stats

I'm the envy of all my friends this year; I sat down on Sunday and got all of my Xmas shopping done in one sitting. Those questions are good so that you as a boss or manager will know who really excels well in their field of web design. I had it for three clients and I gave it up. But still, I haven't switched to Wordpress or CMS Made Simple. I ended up working with the Drupal content management system. My friends and coworkers are already using it for some projects, not very big ones, and it seems to be just fine. They have started creating their own modules and I hope I can get my hands on those as well. Now I have to start having a closer look at Wordpress as well to make a comparison.

Re: 30 things to do before you die (for the technologically aware)

Well if you do let us know your thoughts!
